This is a working demo, but there is a link on the page to download the source file so you can see how it was done. I'm pretty sure I documented it.

SolveThis:
Click the link to see a demo. This is the actionscript1 code to solve user entered formulas. I implement it in my Parabola widget. I started this project by trying to help my nephew map a parabola, but as I delved into creating the interface, the code solving script took much longer than the mapping part.
